A Note from State Representative Karen Gerrish

So I got home late last night to no internet and no ability to call out on the home phone. We have tv. It's been like this for three days. I called Metrocast and they say they are experiencing connection issues in Lebanon. Three days is unacceptable for people particularly the elderly not to have a home phone. Please let me know if you're out and for how long.

If you're having connectivity problems with your Metrocast home phone or cable, please click on the link above and let Rep. Gerrish  know, or phone her office at:  State House Message Phone: (800) 423-2900

QUESTION: Why DID it take Lebanon Engine 2, NINE Minutes to Arrive at the Depot Road Accident on 5/1/15?

After reporting the times of the Depot Road Accident response on the evening of May 1st, many people have been concerned that if Engine 2 was on the radio saying they were responding at 8:09 pm, how could they have possibly taken 9 minutes to arrive on the scene at 8:18 pm??
The accident WAS right down the street on Depot Road, RIGHT?
While the "other" pages would have you believe our guys were goofing around, taking their time, and not taking the accident or traffic safety seriously, BUT when the TRUTH comes out, the facts of the "time warp" of Engine 2 are completely understandable.
You see, the accident was on Depot Road. Lebanon Rescue 2 had arrived within only 8 minute from the first tone.
So there was Rescue 2, (our ambulance), and the accident. But WHO was on the OTHER side of the accident??
WHY ENGINE 2 of course!!
Engine 2 responded they were leaving the Upper Cross Road station at 8:09 pm. Only 11 minutes after the first tone.
However, the "Incident Commander" on the scene, requested that Engine 2 make the trip down to the other end of Upper Cross Road, travel up Center Road, the length of Heath Road, and then come onto the accident scene from the OTHER side, effectively giving us emergency personnel on BOTH sides of the accident.
Because lines were down across Depot Road, and there was a telephone pole that had to be replaced, it would have been dangerous at that hour of the night to leave one end of Depot Road without apparatus blocking the street to motorists.
So, now you know the whole story.
Is 9 minutes from leaving the station at 8:09 pm to arriving on scene at 8:18 pm STILL too long of a time frame??

The Faces of Drug Addiction: Are YOU in Denial??

From Sandy:
With the increase of drug abuse in our area I thought this to be a timely read.

DRUGS AND ABUSE

Signs of Drug Abuse

Most people think that it is relatively easy to spot the signs of drug abuse, but the fact is that someone can be abusing drugs for a long period of time and the no one picks up on it. This is particularly true of parents who are often in a state of denial when it comes to their own children. They simply don't want to see the signs of drug abuse. The signs vary with different drugs and become more intense and noticeable as the addiction grows.
There are some signs of drug abuse that are common among most drugs however. From marijuana to the common opiates one of the first signs is a general loss of motivation and concentration. The drug begins to become the center of the user's universe and school work ad jobs begin to suffer. Prolonged use can lead to paranoia and sexual dysfunction. Other signs of drug abuse can include constant drowsiness, mental confusion, insomnia, and agitation. Depression is also a common sign of drug use, especially with some prescription drugs such as Vicodin.
The most important thing to watch for is general changes in behavior patterns, particularly among teenagers. If a young person has been a solid student and suddenly begins bringing home poor grades this can be one of the signs of drug abuse. In addition, this same student may start to skip school, be constantly tardy, and lose interest in extracurricular activities. Some of the same signs occur in the work place with adults. The quality of work and the dedication to the job are some of the first things to be affected
Many of these signs are ignored or even unnoticed by the users so it can be important for friends and family to spot the signs first and if necessary, intervene.

DOVER — The wooden half pipe under construction since last fall at the Dover Skate Park isn’t yet finished, but it’s already getting rave reviews.
“This is top notch, whoever built it,” said Dan Gazzola, 21, who was riding his BMX-style bike in the finished portion of the half-pipe Thursday evening with Tyler Llerena, 22.
The two friends from Kingston, Mass., are in town this week on a painting job and decided to give the half pipe a try. They liked it enough to come back Thursday for a second straight day.
That’s the type of response the half-pipe’s designers were hoping for. James Boos, Steve Stripto and Chris Trembley began building the element last August. They worked nights and weekends and even kept at it between last winter’s snowstorms. Now, they’re ready to see the pipe in action.
“We are anxious to get it done and I think it’s going to be a huge asset to the community,” Boos said Thursday.
Heck, he’s looking forward to giving it a try. “I can’t wait. It’s one of the motivations for getting it done,” Boos said.
The half pipe emerged from a committee that included Boos, Stripto, Trembley and Matty Johnson about the future of the roughly 20-year-old skate park. As the $65 million Dover Landing development project gained momentum in recent years, there were discussions about moving the park.
Those discussions changed last summer when the development planned for the Cocheco River waterfront fell through. The committee decided to build a half-pipe that could be disassembled, moved, and put together again in case the park one day gets a new home.
The city received $40,000 in fees from the Dover Landing developer to extend certain deadlines, and half was set aside for half pipe construction. Although the city bought the materials, Stripto and the others built the element at no charge.
Dover Recreation Director Gary Bannon said the last of the materials will arrive shortly, allowing the builders to finish the project after months of hard work. Much of the element is complete, although about half of the ramps need a final layer of wood.
“It’s great to get it done now. The group has done a great job and they are all dedicated, hard working volunteers,” Bannon said.
While half pipes aren’t all that uncommon in New England, Boos said this one is different due to its wood composition. Within the last decade, he said more skate parks were built using poured cement for the jumps. The half pipe’s V-notch design on one side is also unique.
“It’s not a standard thing,” Boos said. “It’s actually something we sort of designed. One of the things we set out to achieve was some kind of feature that would sort of set it apart from a standard mini-ramp, half-pipe setup.”
A grand opening event and competition is scheduled for Sunday, May 24, at the skate park. Details of the event are still coming together, Boos said.
“This is pretty much exactly what we had in mind. It came together really well,” he said. “We are super pleased with it.”

The TRUTH about the May 1, 2015 Depot Road Accident.

I'm reading on the Command Central page about the accident on Depot Road last night, Friday, May 1st. I'm sure you KNOW that the TRUTH is not how it was reported on that page.
According to Central Dispatch in Sanford, this is how the timeline shows for official records.

7:58 pm: First tone, Car into telephone pole on Depot Road.

7:58 pm: Lebanon M5 responds (immediate response)

8:00 pm: 2nd tone, Car into telephone pole on Depot Road.

8:00 pm: Lebanon Basic 21 responds enroute to station. ( 2 minutes after first tone)

8:00 pm: Update given by Central Dispatch, caller reports 2 occupants are out of the vehicle and reporting no injury.

8:02 pm: Rescue 2 leaving station. (4 minutes after first tone)

8:06 pm: Rescue 2 on scene. (8 minutes after first tone)

        8:09 pm: Engine 2 responding.

8:09 pm: CMP advises they are on scene.

8:18 pm: Engine 2 arrives on scene. (20 minutes after first tone and 9 minutes after they reported leaving the station)

This is the truth of the response times for the Depot Road accident on Friday night, May 1.
Rescue 2 (ambulance with EMT) was on scene only 8 minutes after the first tone was sounded.
It seems our Rescue group are right up on top of things!! GREAT job!!
I know the "other" page is back up and running and back to taking photos and reporting the partial truth. Apparently it WAS 20 (not 28) minutes for the FIRE apparatus to arrive. At this time I'm waiting to hear from someone on the Fire Department for clarification on these times.
