Invasive plants can over-run natural areas, crowding out native species and changing wildlife habitats. Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District and Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry will sponsor an indoor/outdoor workshop on how to manage invasive plants on Monday, July 20 from 9am to 12:30 pm in Belfast.
Join Nancy Olmstead, Invasive Plant Biologist with the Maine Natural Areas Program, at the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library to learn about invasive plant management strategies including how to map, ID, prioritize, and control selected species. Following the indoor presentation, participants will carpool to the Coastal Mountains Land Trust Stover Preserve in Belfast where Helen Burlingame, invasive plant volunteer, will lead a tour of an ongoing shrubby honeysuckle management project.
Registration fee includes handouts, coffee, and snacks. This program is approved for 2 hours of pesticide recertification credits by the Board of Pesticide Control.
Space is limited and registration is required.
