Volunteers are invited to join conservation professionals and trail maintainers to help restore degraded hiking trails on Mount Monadnock.
This year’s projects include constructing new stone stairs on the Pumpelly Trail, upgrading erosion control areas on the White Dot Trail, and adding footbridges and drainage on the Gilson Pond Loop and Birchtoft Trail.
Volunteers will enjoy free camping at the Monadnock State Park campground.
Mount Monadnock is one of the most-climbed mountains in the western hemisphere.
The State park, which has property in the towns of Jaffrey, Marlborough, Troy, and Dublin over boasts over 4,000 well maintained acres on both Mount Monadnock and Gap Mountain.
Carrie Deegan organizes the volunteer event each year, often thanking the volunteers for their efforts and saying that volunteers make a great difference in the park, but especially on the more heavily-traveled trails on the mountain.
This year will mark the 10th Anniversary of "Trails Week" in the State Park.
"Trails Week" can be a wonderful learning experience for those who are interested in trail or road construction or engineering. All volunteers are sure to come away with new knowledge an the chance to say that they helped to maintain some of the most heavily traveled and beloved trails in the State of New Hampshire.
Young Adults between the ages of 13 and 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Volunteer work of this type is not recommended for children under the age of 13.
