NEEDED: Volunteer Safety Instructors with Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife

Do you enjoy teaching others and sharing your love for the Maine outdoors? The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is looking for volunteer instructors to assist with the delivery of our safety programs.

We annually offer safety classes to approximately 10,000 students statewide in the following disciplines:

Firearms Safety         Bow Hunter Safety                         Trapping              Crossbow
ATV Safety               Snowmobile Safety                         Watercraft

Interested ethical sportsmen or women who have the desire to keep the Maine tradition alive, promote a safe outdoor experience, and deliver a well structured basic safety class with other team members, should apply.  Giving back to the sport that you have a passion for is a major part of being a true, ethical, sportsman or woman.

We have a growing interest from the public in all of the above disciplines, with major growth in Firearms Hunter Safety and Bow Hunter Safety.  The increase in youth and women in these programs over the last few years has been tremendous.

State of Maine Snowmobilers Invited to Participate in Two Free Snowmobile Events

Tri-State Snowmobile Weekend: This annual three-day event will take place January 29 – 31, 2016 and allows all legally registered Maine snowmobiles to be operated in New Hampshire and Vermont without being registered in those states. This also means that all snowmobiles legally registered in New Hampshire and Vermont can be operated in Maine without a current Maine registration.

Maine and New Brunswick Free Trail Weekend: From February 12-14, 2016, snowmobilers from Maine can obtain a FREE 3-Day Trail Permit to ride in New Brunswick. The special free permit must be obtained online by visiting www.nbfsc.com. All snowmobiles and snowmobilers on NBFSC trails will still be required to carry personal PLPD insurance ($200,000.00 minimum) and have a current 2016 snowmobile registration from Maine. Additionally, riders from New Brunswick will be permitted to operate in Maine without a current Maine registration on those dates.

With more than 14,000 miles of interconnected, groomed and marked trails, we hope that enthusiasts participate in these great opportunities to discover Maine’s tremendous riding.

With the increased traffic anticipated during the reciprocal snowmobile weekends, we remind all riders to obey laws of prudent operation, do not drink and drive, and be mindful that this is a family sport, so please keep our trails safe. Pay extra close attention to ice conditions on all Maine waterways especially when travelling at night, and ride with caution.

Snowmobilers should stay off roads, ride at a reasonable speed, use hand signals and ride to the right.

If you need to register your snowmobile in Maine, visit:  https://www10.informe.org/ifw/atv-snow/.

Obituary: Kevin R. Struble

Kevin R. Struble
December 30, 2015
Lebanon

Kevin R. Struble, “Humpy” to many, age 57, of Lebanon, died December 30 at his home.

He was born in Pompton Plains, NJ on January 24, 1958, the son of Roger J. and Helen (Mertins) Struble. He grew up in New Jersey and was a graduate of Butler High Schools where he played football.

A resident of New Jersey for many years, he moved to Lebanon about 20 years ago where he owned and operated Bakers Grant Automotive Repair for several years. More recently, he had worked at Nute Elementary School in Milton, NH. With his big beard, some of the kids at his school thought he was Santa Claus.

Humpy enjoyed hosting parties and pig roasts at his home and was an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast. He also enjoyed spending time with his many friends sitting around the wood stove in his garage. He also enjoyed skiing and golf. Recent health issues prevented him from enjoying these activities. He served as a volunteer firefighter, and while still a resident of New Jersey, he ran with the Pequannock Engine and Hose Company in Butler.

He was predeceased by his mother earlier in 2015 and by his wife Joyce in 2013.

Survivors include his father of Cape Coral, FL, siblings Michael Struble and his wife Ann of Parkersburg, WV, Brian Struble and his wife Ann of Princeton, WV, Kathleen Waite and her husband Rod of Butler, NJ, Sandra Beyloune and her husband Jim of Sudbury, MA, nieces and nephews Sean, Zach, Kaitlin, Kayla, Tori, Jacob, Zachary and Annmarie, several grand nieces and nephews, by many friends and neighbors, especially Brian Nicolo who looked in on Humpy regularly.

Services will be held in New Jersey at a later date.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38101.

Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
