Recreation/Arena Support Staff
The City of Rochester is seeking qualified applicants to staff the recreation offices (nights and weekends) and provide support to recreation programs, activities & events. Part-time hours are 10-15 per week; the ideal candidate will have customer service experience, be familiar with recreation/public programming and basic computer skills.

Support Staff
Statement of Duties
• Staffs the Recreation Office after normal business hours.
• Provides support to recreation programs, activities and events as needed.
• Works to anticipate meet and exceed customer service expectations in a positive and professional manner.
Supervision
• Works under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor. Refers specific situations to supervisor in cases of emergencies or if clarification is needed.
Job Environment
• Work is performed at the Rochester Community Center and Rochester Arena on nights and weekends under typical office conditions with continuous interruptions from program patrons and the general public.
• Program support may be performed at any of the department’s recreation facilities.
• Makes regular contact with users of recreation facilities, comprised of persons of all ages for the purpose of giving information, providing assistance and generally maintaining good order.
• Errors could result in an adverse impact on customers, confusion and delay on the provision of services and could have legal and / or financial repercussions.
Essential Functions

• Staff recreation facilities after normal business hours.
• Accept program registrations and fees.
• Assist with recreation programming, activities and events.
• Open, inspect and set up all rooms, including gym space.
• Inspect, break down and close all rooms, including gym space, at the end of scheduled times.
• Unlock and lock building, including alarm, as necessary.
• Check all areas of building on a regular basis during shift.
• Provide program and department information to patrons via telephone.
• Complete a log sheet for the shift worked.
• Communicate with colleagues via department email.
• Perform other similar or related duties as required or as the situation dictates.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
• Customer service experience; familiarity with recreation/public programming preferred.
• Basic computer and email navigation skills.
Special Recommendations
• Certification of CPR and First Aid preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill
Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the programs and facilities managed by Rochester Recreation & Arena.
Ability: Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with customers and users of the facility; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to maintain accurate records.
Skill: Excellent customer service skills.
Physical and Mental Requirements
The employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; may have to lift or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Physical effort may be required in performing duties in uncomfortable conditions found in ice arenas. Employee must be able to hear normal sounds and communicate through human speech, at times with a raised voice to be heard in loud or noisy areas.
